| If you notice you can see his right eye "wondering" |
Our little Zachary had his eye (to fix his lazy eye) surgery yesterday. I was really nervous about the whole procedure, just with it being an actual surgery on his EYES and with them putting him under and him being so young, I couldn't help but worry about my baby boy.
Well we had to be at the clinic by 6:45am, which meant we had to leave our place by 5:45am (no later than 6am). Before we left I had Todd give Zachary a blessing which helped calmed me down a little. After the blessing we left and got to the clinic at 6:30am and waited forever before they called us back. When we finally went back they had Zachary play with the mask that they were going to use to knock him out with. That way he could see it, touch it, play with it - you know get to know it and not be scared of it. While he played with that, Dr. Lee talked more about the procedure with me and then I spoke to the anesthesiologist about what he was going to do and so on... Then a little after 8:00am they let me take Zachary back to the OR (and I was wearing a hair net and gown since street clothes weren't allowed in the OR) and sit there with him while they knocked him out with the gas. And let me tell you, that was so hard watching that happen. Even if it was him going to sleep. Watching him fight the mask and then going limp and making these gargling noises it just broke my heart and I didn't like seeing that happen. After he was a sleep the nurse escorted me out back to where my mom and Allie were and then the waiting game began... I think we waited for about 45 mins?? I don't know for sure because every time the door opened I would look to see if it was Dr. Lee so who knows how long it was? After what seemed like forever I finally saw Dr. Lee and when he said "it went well and he did great" I felt a huge boulder taken off my shoulder! I was so grateful!! Dr. Lee is an amazing doctor and I'm grateful for what he's done for our little Zachary, couldn't have asked for a better doctor. Once we were done talking a nurse took me back (Allie tagged along too) to be with Zach. When I got there Zachary was just waking up from the anesthesia and he was a little cranky and just wanted his mommy (and thumb). Once the nurse went over the instructions with me and they made sure that he was okay to go home we went home. Once we got home I noticed Zachary was pretty tired, cranky, didn't feel like eating (due to the breathing tube) but that was expected. His doctor did mention that he may have bloody tears for a few days and the redness in his eyes will go away in about 4-5 weeks so we've been calling him our little vampire right now. And as for today (Saturday) day 1 after surgery, Zachary is back to his old self again. He hates it when we have to put the antibiotics in his eye but other than that he's a happy little boy.

| Allie was so protective of Zach. I was rocking him to sleep for bedtime and each time I'd try and talk she'd go "shh mommy". It was so cute. I love how much she loves her brother!!! |
